The Old and the New

The Bronze Statue stolen in August 2007 shortly after our centenary celebrations has now been replaced with a resin copy. A re-dedication service was to be held at Polyapes on the 23rd August 2009. It had been a team effort by many people to complete the re-instatement of the statue. The Management of Polyapes thanks all who helped and contributed.

Sadly the statue had only been finished one week! before a vandal attack and a break in at the site.

Polyapes Statue History

Commissioned by the Districts of Malden & Coombe & Esher Scouts in 1929 to commerate those scouts who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars. It was built by Thames Ditton foundry AB Brown. The model for the statue was a young lad called Philip Radford a member of 1st Molesey who died at the age of 19 years. (sic)

The statue was vandalised and broken off of the plinth in 2005 fortunately they were unsuccessfull, and it was replaced in late 2006, sadly the statue was stolen in August 2007 to be melted down for scrap. The original Statue was made of Bronze, we cannot afford to replace the statue with the same material and if we did, it will get stolen again! ---- so with the help of photographs and an artist from the film industry we have commissioned a new one. Constructed from fibre glass and resin the finished piece will resemble the original. .... Now, all we have to do is convince thieves that it's worthless!!!!
