Polyapes
Polyapes began in 1929 and reached its current size in 1939. Owned now by the districts who's badges are shown above, it has been in continuous use for seventy nine years.
Polyapes
is maintained by ten volunteers
a truly dedicated group. Some are pictured here during the centenary camp in
2007 before the statue was stolen. We are going to need help if we are to continue
to offer the best to those in Scouting. If you have any spare time and are able
to help please contact the Warden.
We have two buildings. The Mowgli sleeps thirty and is approved for Beaver Sleepovers. The Warren is ideal for groups who wish to have indoor kitchen facilities but still want to camp. The Camping area covers twenty three acres of woodland. The Cub Field and the various Sites surrounding it and where the Main Toilet block is located. The South Ridge which can cater for County, District & Group events and where the second toilet block is located. The Whistle Field a new area for practicing bivouac building, backwoods camping and cooking skills and pioneering.
Camping at Polyapes. Site Map
Polyapes caters for Patrol, Group, District & County events all sites have water points and fire pits. The main toilet facility has hot water and showers, the ridge unit now has hot water. We encourage open fires at Polyapes, there is plenty of fallen timber around the site, our wood pile can run low in busy periods so bring an alternative heat source just in case. The orienteering trail has been renewed and maps are available (free) on request. We also welcome bookings from Companies, LRP groups and other organisations. Wedding receptions, looking for a different place? Please contact the Secretary for details.
